Empowerment of Warrior Patients

As part of the activities marking the Sickle Cell awareness month, individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) were empowered by the Sickle Cell Hope Alive Foundation (SCHAF).

Individuals living with SCD are constantly faced with the challenge of inability to get paid employment due to the constant crises and illness they face. SCHAF has identified vocational training and skill acquisition as a lee way to reduce the burden of SCD on patients. This is In tandem with the 3rd pillar of SCHAF; Care.

The event, held in the University College Ibadan on 16th September 2021 was graced with an impressive attendance of state representatives, private medical practioners, the media and the general public. The Ministry of Health was ably represented by Mrs Abioye, Oni Memorial Child Hospital was equally represented by Dr Aderounmu. The media presence of NTA, Tribune, Impact Radio, The Impact Africa TV Network and Space FM graced the event to spread the good news.

15 individuals and members of the SCHAF Know Your Genotype (KYG) Club were empowered. The empowerment included scholarship and registration to their different vocations of choice, rent fees for existing warrior entrepreneurs, cash gifts to better their lot.
