SCHAF SCD-Health Initiative 2018 Get Together

The Sickle Cell Hope Alive Foundation (SCHAF) Sickle Cell Disease (SCD)-Health Initiative Get Together was held on Tuesday, 16th January, 2018 at the Special Clinics Hall of Ring Road State Hospital.

SCHAF Executive Director and President – Professor Adeyinka G. Falusi gave a review of SCHAF’s activities over the years and all the Foundation is doing to enhance care for SCD-affected individuals. On the Sickle Cell Disease Health Initiative, Prof. Falusi spoke about a forthcoming research on their health and encouraged patients to participate when called upon.

A Consultant Nutritionist, Mr Femi Faleke, gave a health talk: ‘Diet, Health, Empowerment and Wealth Creation’. Patients were urged to develop healthy eating behaviours and avoid skipping meals.

Dignitaries present included: The Secretary to the Board of Trustees of SCHAF, Mrs Helen Oduntan; Consultant Haematologist, Dr. Foluke Fasola while the Vice Chancelor of Chrisland University, Professor C.P. Babalola was represented.

Routine drugs were distributed by the Pharmacist to all SCD-affected individuals along with some other gifts. The President RRSH Sickle Cell Club, Mr Lukman and Miss. Olufemi Daniel gave positive comments of appreciation to SCHAF.

Over 300 participants were in attendance including 182 SCD-affected individuals, 53 Parents/Caregivers, 15 Dignitaries, 32 well-wishers and about 20 volunteers. Adequate Media coverage was given by NTA Ibadan, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ibadan and Space FM (90.1), Ibadan.
